Urban heat island effect in Tianjin reduces building heating intensity by 10%.
The study looked at how the urban heat island effect impacts the heating needs of buildings in Tianjin, China. They analyzed temperature data from different areas over several years. The results showed that as the temperature in the city center increased, the heating intensity of buildings decreased. The biggest difference in heating intensity between urban and suburban areas was in the morning. This means that not considering the urban heat island effect can lead to inaccurate estimates of energy use in different areas and at different times.
