Scientists conducted aircraft-based measurements over a forest in Western Russia to study trace gases in the air. They found that the amount of CO2 in the lower atmosphere above the forest changes more than in the higher atmosphere. This change is influenced by industrial emissions from Europe in winter. The forest itself also affects the levels of trace gases in the air close to the ground.
