Deciduous tree species play a crucial role in shaping the structure of a restored warm temperate forest in Japan. By comparing two afforestation sites with different densities of deciduous trees, researchers found that the planting density of deciduous trees significantly influences the vegetational structure and regeneration patterns of the forest. The presence of deciduous trees helps increase structural diversity and self-sustainability by promoting the growth of late-successional species. The diversity of vegetation in a restored warm temperate forest is more strongly impacted by the density of deciduous trees than the total number of trees planted.
