Climate Models Reveal Crucial Insights for Protecting Australia's Vulnerable Regions
Dynamical downscaling of global climate models by regional climate models can provide valuable information for understanding current and future climate changes in Australia. The study identified areas where regional climate models add value to climate projections, especially in simulating precipitation and temperature patterns. The concept of "realised added value" was introduced to show where regional climate models improve both present climate simulations and future climate change projections. Notable findings include improved summer precipitation simulations in northern and eastern Australia and projected changes in winter and summer rainfall patterns across the country. This research can help inform climate adaptation strategies and improve future climate projections globally.
