Protected areas like national parks are important for conservation. In the UK, there are 24 types of protected areas, with more possibly being added. There is a need to review and update the current system of protected areas. New ideas include categorizing areas based on their management goals, creating networks of protected areas, establishing a hierarchy of areas, aligning policy objectives, and integrating human activities with conservation efforts.
