Humic acid reduces toxic metal accumulation in water-dwelling organisms.
The study looked at how humic acid affects the build-up of certain metals in water fleas. Humic acid had a bigger impact on the build-up of cadmium and one form of chromium compared to another form of chromium. High levels of humic acid decreased the build-up of some metals, while lower levels had mixed effects. Overall, the results showed that humic acid can influence how these metals accumulate in water fleas.
