Sperm delivery without medium could enable new fertility options
The scientists wanted to see how mouse sperm quality, fertility, and embryo development are affected by transporting sperm from the cauda epididymis at room temperature or 4-8 degrees Celsius with or without a special solution called M2. They found that fresh sperm had better quality and fertility compared to transported sperm. Sperm motility was similar to fresh sperm when stored at 4-8 degrees Celsius with M2. Transporting cauda epididymis at 4-8 degrees Celsius without M2 was best for maintaining sperm fertility and embryo development. However, transporting at room temperature without the solution could still produce embryos for live offspring.
