Study Reveals Alarming Levels of Concern About Food Insecurity Across States
The study looked at how many people in nine states were worried about having enough food from 1996 to 1999. They found that between 3.1% and 11.8% of people in each state were concerned about having enough food. People with low incomes were most likely to worry about having enough food. Women, younger people, and those without health insurance were also more likely to be concerned. On the other hand, people in good health and non-Hispanic whites were less likely to worry about having enough food. The researchers suggest using food security scales to track progress in reducing hunger in American households.
