Surging Milne Glacier in Canada set to advance rapidly, impacting environment.
Milne Glacier in Northern Ellesmere Island, Canada, moved forward 4.25 km between 1966 and 1983, advancing at a rate of 250 meters per year. It might have surged even faster, possibly over 2 km per year. The glacier's end shows signs of past surges, like looped moraines. Since the glacier is cold and gets little snow, surges may be controlled by temperature. This means Milne Glacier and other High Arctic glaciers could surge frequently.
