Urban growth management strategies are used to control urban land use and combat negative effects of urban sprawl. A study compared urban development in 6 European and 2 US cities, analyzing the drivers and impacts of growth. Some cities successfully accommodate growth within existing areas, while others expand outward. The effectiveness of urban growth management varies, but innovative approaches have been identified to address specific challenges.
