Ukrainian meadow steppe facing drastic changes due to human impact
The plant cover in the meadow-steppe of the «Mikhaylovskaya Tselina» reserve in Ukraine has been changing over time. By using a method called the Braun-Blanquet approach, researchers found that the plant communities in the area have been shifting, with some new associations being identified. The plant cover is becoming more mesophytic, especially in areas under strict protection since 1961. This change is likely due to the small size of the reserve, lack of natural grazers, and the way the environment is managed. The researchers also looked at how ecological factors are changing and how these changes are influenced by external factors.
