Georgia groundwater levels rising, but quality concerns remain high.
Groundwater levels in Georgia were monitored from 2015 to 2016, with data collected from 147 wells. Over a 10-year period, water levels generally rose in 105 wells and declined in 31 wells. Long-term data showed water levels decreasing in 80 wells, increasing in 62 wells, and staying constant in 5 wells. Potentiometric-surface maps were created for different aquifers in various areas of Georgia, showing changes in water levels over time. In the Brunswick area, chloride concentrations in the Upper Floridan aquifer remained high in 2015 and 2016. Overall, water levels in the Upper Floridan aquifer were higher in 2015 than in 2016 in some areas due to increased precipitation, while levels in the Cretaceous aquifer system were lower in 2015 compared to 2016 in another area.
