Biofuels could drastically reduce carbon emissions and transform energy landscape.
A tool called the Carbon Calculator for Land Use Change from Biofuels Production (CCLUB) helps to figure out how much carbon is released when producing different types of ethanol from corn and plants like corn stover, Miscanthus, and switchgrass. The researchers released an updated version of CCLUB in 2014 to include these options. This tool calculates the carbon emissions related to changes in land use caused by growing these plants for biofuels. So, it tells us how these biofuels may impact the environment in terms of carbon.
