A new technique was developed to improve future weather forecasts by using past errors. By adjusting initial conditions based on short-term forecast errors, longer forecasts showed some improvement but were still not as accurate as shorter forecasts. This method, similar to a simplified 4-D VAR system, aims to enhance forecast skill at a lower cost.
