Global Tropospheric Ozone Levels Soar, Impacting Air Quality Worldwide.
Tropospheric ozone levels have been increasing globally over the past four decades, mainly due to human activities like emissions and transport. Satellite data combined with a chemical transport model show significant ozone increases over regions like India, East Asia, and the Pacific Ocean. The largest rise in ozone levels occurred from 2005 to 2016. Both satellite measurements and the model indicate a rise in tropospheric ozone over central Africa and the tropical Atlantic Ocean as well. The trends in ozone levels are higher in the more recent satellite data compared to earlier records, especially over India and East Asia.
