Atlantic and Mediterranean vapor sources drive extreme precipitation variability in Spain
The study analyzed rainwater samples from two locations in southwest Spain to understand the isotopic composition of precipitation. The researchers found that the isotopic values varied due to influences from the Atlantic and Mediterranean vapor sources. The d-excess values indicated a Western Mediterranean influence, and secondary evaporation affected isotopic signatures during summer. Despite being in different settings, the isotopic signatures of both sites were very similar, and no significant urban effects on isotopic composition were identified.
