Japan's Snowfall Patterns Revealed: Implications for Water Resources and Infrastructure
The researchers estimated the amount of snow cover and snowfall in Japan. They found that the average snow cover in a season is 7.9 × 10^13 kg, while the average snowfall is 1.2 × 10^14 kg. In a heavy-snowfall winter, the snow cover was 1.3 × 10^14 kg. This amount of snow cover is equivalent to 230 mm of water on the ground. In areas with more than 10 cm of snow depth, the snow water equivalent was calculated to be 370 mm.
