Trade Agreements Boost Services Exports by Reducing Uncertainty for Businesses
The study examines how trade agreements affect services like professional services, computer services, telecoms, financial services, and transport services. By analyzing 95 trade agreements, the researchers found that clear and strict trade rules in agreements help boost exports in these sectors. Even without actually making trade rules more open, having firm commitments in these deals helps exporters by reducing uncertainty. The study looked at data from 2000 to 2014 and found positive impacts on exports due to these legal commitments in services trade agreements.
