Ships with Shallow Drafts Face Stronger Springing Response, Study Finds
The article discusses how ships with shallow draft and large breadth respond to springing. The researchers used a model to estimate the hull girder's response, considering vertical, horizontal, and torsional deformations. They calculated stress distribution using the Timoshenko beam model and hydrodynamic forces with the quadratic strip method. By using a 'rigid lid' on the hull surface, they removed irregular frequencies. The results of their calculations matched previous findings for both symmetric and anti-symmetric responses.
