Conservation tillage in a wheat-fallow rotation can help reduce wind erosion and blowing dust, improving soil productivity and air quality. A study conducted in eastern Washington compared conservation tillage with conventional tillage over 5 years and found that conservation tillage was economically beneficial. Despite the known benefits, conventional tillage is still widely practiced in the region.
