Macrophytes found to inhibit blue-green algae growth, offering eco-friendly solution.
Macrophytes like Cabomba caroliniana and Myriophyllum spicatum can stop the growth of harmful blue-green algae by releasing special compounds. Myriophyllum spicatum is especially good at this. When these compounds are added continuously, they keep the algae from growing. This study shows for the first time that Myriophyllum spicatum releases these compounds constantly, making it a powerful tool against blue-green algae.
