Unpaved roads in China at risk of high soil erosion rates.
Unpaved roads in South China can cause soil erosion due to changes in topography and hydrology. A study used a model called WEPP to predict soil loss on 20 road segments. The model accurately estimated soil loss on short, gentle roads but underestimated on long or steep roads. The model could predict where soil loss would be highest, despite some inaccuracies. Overall, the WEPP model can help assess erosion risk on unpaved roads in the red soil region of China.
