Cleaner Water for Millions: New Filtration Method Outperforms Conventional Approach
The study compared two water treatment methods in Greenville, South Carolina, USA: dissolved air flotation and direct filtration. The goal was to produce clear water and remove algae, iron, manganese, and disinfection by-product precursors. The dissolved air flotation method had longer filter runs than direct filtration when both met the water quality goal. Using pre-ozone helped direct filtration. Both methods removed organic compounds, disinfection by-product precursors, iron, and manganese equally well.
