Researchers estimated sediment volumes in 19 Florida east coast inlets to understand coastal sediment movement. They found that most sandy sediment is in the northern inlets, with a large amount trapped from natural and artificial inlet modifications. A significant portion of sediment comes from dredged channels and is placed at sea.
