Aerated landfills cut waste volume, costs, and environmental impact significantly.
The study tested different methods of managing solid waste in landfills to see how they affect waste decomposition, gas production, and settlement. By using aeration and leachate recirculation, the researchers found that waste breaks down faster, reducing the time it takes for the landfill to stabilize. This can save money on long-term monitoring and decrease the environmental impact of the landfill. Aerobic landfilling was the most effective method, but semi-aerobic landfilling also showed promise in speeding up waste stabilization and gas production.
