The article discusses how the Natura 2000 European Ecological Network promotes sustainable development by protecting natural areas in Poland. This network includes Special Protection Areas for birds and Special Areas of Conservation for habitats. Poland has 141 bird sites covering 15.6% of the land and 364 habitat sites covering 8.95% of the total area. The Natura 2000 program ensures that any project with a significant impact on these sites undergoes an environmental impact assessment to ensure sustainable development.
