Compound cupulate structures and two types of isolated seeds were found in the Carboniferous of western Argentina. Pteridosperm diversity in Western Gondwana suggests a wider distribution of this group during the late Paleozoic. The scarcity of fertile organs in this region may be due to adverse climatic conditions.
