A new model was developed to study how sediment moves in water with waves. This model looks at three layers of sediment: the top layer where sediment is floating, the middle layer where sediment is moving along the bottom, and the bottom layer where sediment is resting. The researchers found that this three-layer model can help predict how much sediment is being carried by the water and how thick the sediment layer is.
