Widening productivity gap leaves developing nations struggling to catch up.
The study compared agricultural productivity between developed and developing countries in 1975 and 1980. Results show that developed countries have higher productivity in both land and labor. The difference in labor productivity is more significant than in land productivity. Over time, the productivity gap between countries has widened, especially in labor. By using a new method, the gap in land productivity has decreased in Africa, Asia, and Europe. This suggests that there are differences in how efficiently agricultural labor is used across countries.
