Lack of Comprehensive Counselling Theories Hinders Effective Support for Many.
The article discusses how counselors are combining different theories and approaches in their practice to meet the needs of their clients. This trend towards eclecticism and integration is driven by the practical demands of counseling. Eclecticism involves borrowing ideas from various sources, while integration involves combining different parts into a cohesive whole. The article presents four models of how counselors can approach eclecticism and integration. However, simply being eclectic or integrated does not guarantee a comprehensive approach. The lack of a solid, comprehensive, and integrated theoretical framework focused on the everyday needs of most people can have negative effects on counseling and counselor training.
