Pragmatics is a complex field in linguistics and philosophy that is growing rapidly. There are two main schools of thought in pragmatics: Anglo-American and European Continental traditions. The study also covers different aspects like cognitive, social, and cultural influences on language use. The goal of this chapter is to provide an overview of the current state of pragmatics.
