Innovation is crucial for small and medium-sized companies to succeed in the market. A study looked at how different types of innovation (exploitative and exploratory) affect the export performance of plastics industry SMEs. The research found that exploitative innovation positively impacts export performance, while exploratory innovation does not. Strategy and manufacturing capabilities are important for both types of innovation, with manufacturing capabilities directly influencing export performance.
