Laticifers in the bulb scales of Allium plants were studied to understand their structure and distribution. The researchers looked at 52 different species and varieties of Allium and found differences in the position, shape, and pitting of laticifers in the cross walls. These differences supported the separation of subgenera Amerallium and Allium within the genus Allium. The study also provided anatomical evidence for distinguishing the section Melanocrommyum and the subsection Cepa within Allium.
