New Irish Soil Map Revolutionizes Understanding of Land Across the Country
The 3rd Edition National Soil Map of Ireland, published in 2014, created a consistent classification system for Irish soils. By combining digital mapping techniques, field surveys, and historical data, the map now includes a three-tiered taxonomy of soil groups. This classification system helps to describe soil profiles, define horizons, and identify soil types accurately. The map also correlates with the World Reference Base classification, allowing for international comparisons. Urban soils are also classified using this system.
