High levels of natural organic matter in water can make it hard to treat and meet safety standards. Scientists tested a new method called MIEX® combined with a small amount of coagulant to remove this matter. They found that MIEX® alone removed over 80% of the organic carbon and more than 85% of UV absorbance from the water. When combined with coagulant, the process improved overall removal of organic matter and reduced the formation of harmful byproducts. This new method could make water treatment more efficient during challenging times.
