Revolutionizing Energy Planning: Styria Leads the Way in Climate Protection
Integrated spatial and energy planning in Styria is a model for local and regional energy transition and climate protection policies. The goal is to combine spatial planning with energy planning to create sustainable renewable energy systems. By integrating these two aspects, strategic databases and maps can be used to harmonize district heating, mobility, and spatial development. This approach has been successfully applied in Styria, with tangible outputs like planning guidance for municipalities and further education programs for planners and decision makers. This model is being expanded to other provinces in Austria, making it a potential role model for energy transition and climate protection policies worldwide.
