Lack of Toilet Space Leads to Open Defecation Crisis in Kenya.
The study looked at challenges faced by households in Tigania West, Kenya, in promoting good sanitation practices. They found that many residents lacked space and materials for building toilets, especially in rocky soils. Cultural beliefs and financial constraints also hindered proper sanitation. Sharing toilets was a common issue, affecting over half of the households surveyed. The researchers suggest using local materials, training, and behavior change programs to improve sanitation in the area.
