Danish pig farms reduce methane emissions by up to 93% with new strategies.
The study looked at methane emissions from five Danish pig farms with different manure practices. They found that farms with biogasification or acidification had lower emissions compared to those with no treatment. Emissions were highest at farms with fattening pigs and no treatment, and lowest at farms with acidification. The models used to estimate emissions underestimated actual emissions by 51%, with the Danish model performing the worst. This study shows that improving model parameters related to manure emissions could help better estimate methane emissions from pig farms.
