Population growth and roads lead to 48% forest cover loss in Pakistan.
Deforestation in District Kurram, Pakistan, has been studied from 1972 to 2019 to see how population growth and road construction have affected the forests. The researchers used satellite images and field observations to track changes over time. They found that almost half of the forest cover was lost in about 50 years, with the rate of deforestation varying during this period. The study showed that both population growth and increased accessibility have contributed significantly to the loss of forests in the area.
