Revolutionary Planting and Mulching Techniques Boost Wheat Yield in Arid Regions
Planting wheat in specific patterns and using mulch can help retain more water in the soil, leading to better growth and higher yields, especially in dry regions with limited water. The study compared different planting methods and mulching techniques over two years and found that using plastic film or wheat straw mulch increased soil water content at different depths. Wheat grown with mulch had higher plant dry weight, yield, and water use efficiency compared to non-mulched wheat. The best results were seen with wheat straw mulch under normal irrigation and plastic film mulch under reduced irrigation. Overall, mulching can improve wheat production in arid areas by conserving water and boosting crop performance.
