Spit evolution threatens Manamelkudi coast with erosion and accretion havoc.
The scientists studied how the shoreline changed along the Manamelkudi coast from 1980 to 2020. They used maps, satellite data, and observations to figure out why the shoreline and spits (narrow land formations) changed. They found that the spit growth was most common, with lots of erosion and accretion happening. The study also showed different areas where the shoreline eroded, stayed the same, or grew.
