ASHRAE Cooling Model Overpredicts Energy Use, Worsening Climate Crisis.
The study compared two methods for predicting cooling loads in buildings, CIBSE admittance and ASHRAE radiant time series. The researchers found that the ASHRAE method tended to overpredict cooling loads by more than 60% due to its sensitivity to solar gains, while the CIBSE method tended to underpredict them. This difference could lead to inefficient sizing of cooling equipment and increased energy consumption.
