Unusually high ozone levels in Western Maryland spark health concerns.
A recent study in Western Maryland found high levels of ozone and total oxidants in the air over a 2-week period in 1980. Ozone levels were highest during the day, peaking at 0.075 ppM in the afternoon. The average ozone concentration over the 14 days was 0.059 ppM, with a maximum of 0.13 ppM measured. Total oxidant levels were slightly higher at 0.060 ppM. These findings show that the air in Western Maryland had elevated levels of ozone and total oxidants during this time period.
