Soil acidity study reveals key to thriving canola and maize crops.
Aluminum toxicity in acidic soils can limit crop growth in certain regions. A study looked at critical levels of aluminum and pH for canola and maize in two types of acidic soils. They found that the critical aluminum levels for canola were lower than for maize, and higher in one soil type compared to the other. The pH levels needed for optimal growth also varied between the two crops and soil types. This information can help farmers improve soil conditions for better crop yields in acidic areas.
