New Vegetation Index Method Revolutionizes Drought Detection in East Java
The study compared different vegetation index methods to detect drought in Bondowoso Regency, East Java. By analyzing satellite images from January to July 2021, researchers found that the Soil Adjusted Vegetation Index (SAVI) was the most accurate method, with an 86% success rate. Enhanced Vegetation Index (EVI) had a 14% accuracy, while Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) had an 80% accuracy. SAVI was particularly sensitive to vegetation information, especially in areas near clouds. Overall, SAVI was found to be the best method for detecting drought in the region.
