Indonesia's Energy Efficiency Gains Undermined by Rebound Effect, Threatening Climate Goals
Increased energy efficiency in Indonesia has led to economic growth and increased energy use, but also higher carbon emissions due to the rebound effect. To address this, the country aims to reduce energy intensity by 1% annually. By using the KAYA index and LMDI decomposition, it was found that energy efficiency gains in Indonesia may be linked to the rebound effect. The government plans to enhance energy efficiency, especially in the building sector, to promote energy savings.
