Fungal Enzymes Poised to Revolutionize Textile, Paper, and Bioremediation Industries
Fungi called Aspergillus can make a useful enzyme called laccase. Scientists found Aspergillus in soil and wood, confirming laccase with a special test. They then tried to produce laccase from Aspergillus niger using a method called Submerged fermentation. By adjusting the growth conditions of the fungus, they boosted enzyme production. The laccase was put to work decolorizing dye and showed promise for cleaning up pollutants in soil. Laccases are important in industries like textiles and food, as well as for environmental cleanup. This study demonstrates how fungi can be tapped for making valuable enzymes with potential applications in various fields.
