Brain Scans Unlock Powerful Insights with Smaller Samples, Transforming Mental Health Diagnostics
Brain-Wide Association Studies (BWAS) have been used for 30 years to connect the mind and brain. Univariate models test brain voxels one by one, while multivariate models combine signals from different brain regions. A recent study found that multivariate BWAS can be more powerful and reliable than univariate models. Contrary to previous claims, multivariate BWAS can produce accurate results without needing thousands of participants. This means that multivariate BWAS can be a valuable tool for understanding brain-behavior relationships with smaller sample sizes.
