Freezing Sperm in Tiny Drops Boosts Fertility Hopes for Men with Low Sperm Count
The researchers wanted to find a better way to freeze sperm for men with very low sperm counts. They tried a new method called micro-vapor fast freezing (MicroVFF) using small 10µl tips. In the study, they compared this new method to the standard freezing method using 500µl straws. They found that MicroVFF preserved sperm viability and movement better than the usual method. It worked well for men with very low sperm counts. The study showed that MicroVFF resulted in higher post-thaw percentages of sperm motility and viability compared to the conventional freezing method using larger straws. This new MicroVFF technique could be useful in assisted reproduction procedures like intracytoplasmic sperm injection.
