Revolutionizing Soil Management in Arid Lands Using Remote Sensing
Soil salinity and sodicity are big problems in dry areas, caused mainly by human activities. A study used remote sensing and GIS to make a model for mapping and managing soil salinity. They found that certain remote-sensing indices can accurately predict soil salinity levels. In the study area, over half of the cultivated land is affected by salt, with different levels of salinity. To improve crop productivity, leaching and gypsum can be used to reduce soil salinity.
